Parliamentary – barn name Oakley – is the horse who convinced me to jump back into horse ownership after seven years of begging, borrowing
and stealing rides wherever I could find them. He’s a 2006 Thoroughbred…and he’s 18hh! I bought Oakley as a green nine-year-old from my former trainer in Montreal, who had him in her barn for training for about eighteen months. Prior to that, Oakley was just a big, beautiful lawn ornament for an older woman who liked the idea of horses in her front yard. I don’t think she quite realized how much this horse was going to eat, though.
Oakley and I are still getting to know each other, but so far he has proven himself to be personable, sensible, and a real trier, not to mention a big cuddle bun. I’m excited to continue with his training and see where our road takes us.
Before Oakley, I rode Schmoodle, who thought the world was a very dangerous place.
